How do I put up climbing holds directly on drywall?

We do not recommend putting up climbing holds directly on drywall!

The climbing holds carry the weight of the children and adults who climb on them, and there is a high risk that the climbing holds will loosen and destroy the drywall if screwed directly into rawplugs on a drywall. Furthermore, the vast majority of climbing grips are designed to be fitted with bolts that cannot be screwed into rawplugs, but which require a special thread that cannot be installed into a drywall. However, if you know exactly where the laths lie behind the drywall, it may well be possible to screw the climbing holds directly into the laths with frame fixing screw.

Instead, we recommend installing the climbing holds on a plywood board and then mounting the board on the drywall. It is much easier to mount a board on a drywall, and if the board is against the floor, the weight is distributed between the wall and the floor.
