Prusik cord is thin, static nylon rope for climbing is used for security when abseiling. The rule of thumb is that the diametre on a prusik cord should be half of the climbing rope. Generally, this means that you must select a prusik cord between 5 and 6 mm. The prusik cord bound to the climbing the rope with a prusik knot, ensuring that you do not fall down if you lose hold on the climbing rope. The prusik knot clamps onto the climbing rope and thus catch you.
